In his 3rd Regnal Year, Jahangir further increased the weight of his coins by 5% taking them to a 25% heavier standard as compared to Akbar's coins. However, this anomaly of weight proved quite cumbersome for traders and merchants and finally the Sawai standard was abolished on 11th Ardibihisht 1020 AH. His coinage then reverted to Akbar's standard.

The word 'Sawai' means 'one and a quarter' - a reference to the weight of the coins.
